Footprints
Footprints on my doorstep
the image sear loneliness from its epicenter
I said goodbye to melancholy just the other day
pace by pace it was trampling on my heart.
"far away from home, that's common" they say
my neighbours and a bunch of small women hidden in me
leaving trails of breadcrumbs behind, she walks
I follow her footsteps silent and obedient
shed tears, pity yourself, hurt others
none of it soothes better than sharing
step by step collect the footprints you left behind,
hurting others that were before you
wait
as she passes by
wait
as she turns back
and wait as she dies
silent and obedient
that fog sits upon your head as if to strangle
yet it will rise gently bit by bit
you were the goner; now stay behind to wait
the end of every road meet where you always stood
that your faith
is your haven
that the footprints
in circles seek eternity
